[7] Changes that could be made in my study programme

Changes that could be made in my study programme

Topic 1: The curriculum

About the curriculum, I think it is a little bit outdated, for a long time, the students have criticized that there are subject that are a quite irrelevant, or some subjects that are different name, but the same information is taught, (One example for this is “Statistics” and “Pharmaceutical Statistics”) subjects that should be merged or eliminated.

Topic 2: Workload and length of studies

The previous topic is closely related to this one, the length of the studies is the “standard” for a scientific Career (5 years) , but the big problem is the real length of the university course, according to several sources, it is approximately 8 years, which is a long time (Chemistry and Pharmacy Career)

All this happens because of things like annual subjects, repetitive and unnecessary subjects, the deciding which subjects are annual and which are not is a disaster, one of the most difficulty subject in the career are annual, and the worst part of this, the career are very, VERY expensive for the average Chilean.

Topic 3: Faculty facilities

The infrastructure of the faculty in general, is fine, but the faculty lacks more green areas, and, in this case of Covid-19 pandemic, the laboratories have become too small for the number of people in the faculty, and there are not many materials.

Topic 4: Use of technology

I don’t have experience about the use of pc’s in the faculty, but I would like to see the use of technology in the subject, for example, excel in statistic, or some other applications in chemic class.

Topic 5: Teaching Methods

The teaching methods are... standard.

[5] My Future Job

My Future Job The job where I liked in the future is in the investigation area, exactly in the botany area, I imagine myself in my future job touring all Chile, From Arica to Punta arenas, researching and discovering the “active principle” of the big variety of plants of this country   I can also imagine myself in a sientifict laboratory, with a laboratory team examining, search and discover the active principles of the plants,   the goal of this work is to be able to help all mankind.   Outdoor or indoor? Both, in outdoors, I will have to find and collect plant samples, and in indoors, I will have to investigate the plant samples with my team. I would like to travel a lot? Yes, I would love to In my case, much of my friends have the idea of leave Chile, but in my case, I want to stay in Chile an discovered myself, explore the Magallanes and the Aisén, search about plants and learn about his history.   The salary? I don't expect a very ...

[8] English in the University

My experience learning English at university My experience learning English at the university it was very good, in my school my English training was the best that time and budget could do (I remember it even had a themed activity called “English day”, in the last year in the secondary school, it was about a circus, and in my classroom at school, the theme of “Freak Show” was selected)   In general, the English subject is a very good form to complement my previous knowledge and, they prepare my better for the university reality.   The use of blogs was quite positive because they allow me to give my personal opinions o show my things, which allow me to feel liberated.     What aspects of your English need to be improved? how do you plan to do this? I find my English level to be “survival”, it it’s enough to survive if one day I appear out of nowhere in the United States for example, but it is insufficient to give a lecture at a university or a jo...

[3] The botany, the chemistry, and the pharmacy

The botany, the chemistry, and the pharmacy In the next post I we talk to you about the importance of the botany area in the pharmacy studies Always in th e whole world, you mother, your grandmother, your neighbor, or a doctor, all these persons recommended drink some rare tea, of roots or plants, to achieve a cure for a type of little pain, an illness, or a cold. These millenary traditions, don’t work for a casualty of the live, is all about the “Active principle”, the active principles, sometimes because of evolution or a coincidence, they manage to synthesize in some plants. And one of the big homework for all the pharmaceutical Chemist is discover and potency his active principles! One of the most famous histories about the active ingredients in plants is this: People of a village they recommended for a headache, a tea of Willow leaves, the taste of this tea was very bitter, but was cured of his headache. The scientist amazed by the healing power of the tea, the...
